September is Hunger Action Month
Hunger Action Month is an annual nationwide campaign each September to raise awareness about hunger in our local communities and in America and to inspire help to end hunger. Every action–big or small—is one step closer to ending hunger in our community. As the cost of food has risen, your voice, your actions and commitment are even more critical in helping our neighbors to get the food and resources they need to thrive. Hunger is a crisis, but together it is a challenge we can overcome.
Food Insecurity
Hunger affects people from all walks of life. Your neighbor may be just one job loss, missed paycheck, or medical emergency away from hunger. Hunger and food insecurity does not affect everyone equally – groups like children and seniors face hunger at a much higher rate.
While people are working hard to provide for themselves and their families, many rely on food assistance from sources like God’s Outreach Madison County Food Bank.
February 2024
Nearly 710,000 Kentuckians, including more than 208,330 children (1 in 5) face food insecurity, meaning they do not know where they will get their next meal. With the rising cost of food, food insecurity has skyrocketed. According to the February 2024 Edition of Forbes Magazine, food prices have increased 30% since 2019.
